so i realize now(after talking about it on my rp forum for a few days) that really almost nobody knows who david is, which is kinda sad cus if you like any kind of rpg you owe that to david. before him the most common(and almost only) kind of rping was where each person involved in the rp controlled a squad of.... whatever it is you wanted and fought each-other in that manner. he literally invented the idea of each person controlling a single unit and a judge(game master) controlling how the world reacts based on your actions. in addition to that he also invented the idea of a campaign world, the idea of a group of(or sometimes just one) adventurers are set in a world and given a single(or sometimes series of) task in that world and can pursue other interests in that world but with the ultimate goal being the task.

the point is that while gary was also important in that he was a charismatic(well, for a fat nerd who brought us D&D he was charismatic neway) and well connected person who sold the idea of rping to people(ok, mainly just to nerds) without david arneson there would have been no idea for gary to sell. also the second point is if you like any kind of rpg you owe a lot to him.

Shame to hear about this, D&D is the grandfather of RPG's. There's a debate that has spawned though, it's in regards to the alignment system in D&D. Many have argued that the original concept was taken from Michael Moorcock's the Elric Saga. Within his novels there were forces of Order and Chaos. Warhammer Fantasy has also kinda been accused of using a not so subtle, alignment system that directly is related to the Moorcock novels. D&D, covered it up with choatic neutral, Lawful Good, Neutral Evil etc. The Dark Eye, which is a P&P RPG similar to D&D, used a lot of it's core concepts. It's wildly popular in Germany, The Dark Eye: Drakensang is a cpu RPG and it's really quite amazing.

So should I make a roleplaying forum and have us bang out some D&D action?
